Drivers Education Registration and Requirements

Registration Information

You can register for a Swerve New / Teen Driver Training Program in several ways: Before doing so, make sure you check the SWERVE New Driver Training and Reality Check Schedule for the course that most suits your schedule or call to speak with an enrollment specialist who can help you find the best location and schedule to suit your needs.

Requirements for Parents and Driving Students

  • In compliance with the law, parents must complete and sign the Registration Form before Class 1. They must also sign all paperwork associated with the licensing process.
  • Payment in full required to reserve a seat. The cost for New Driver Training is $699. Call to learn about current promotions.
  • At least one parent must attend the First Class/Orientation Class with their teen (For students under the age of 18). See Schedule for the date of your teen's Orientation Class.
  • *Please read Student requirements below, and be familiar with our policies below regarding missed classes, missed student drives, etc.
  • Parents of unlicensed teens are required to attend the Reality Check , our advanced car control skills module, available to SWERVE students and graduates at a discounted rate. Students or graduates with a license do not require parental supervision.

5 Requirements for Driver Education Students

  • SWERVE Driver Training has the same minimum enrollment requirements as the State of Washington (1) a minimum age of 15 years (2) parental (or legal guardian) consent, if under 18, to enroll in a driver training course.
  • To complete the course, and receive a Traffic Safety Education Certification of Completion from SWERVE, you must:
  • Attend all 15 SWERVE classroom sessions (30 hours of instruction)
  • Attend at least 6 behind-the-wheel driving sessions (Six Hours)
  • Complete the course after a minimum of 30 days or a maximum of 6 months.
  • Accurately log in and out of classroom and drive sessions.
  • Attend at least 6 behind-the-wheel observation sessions (Six Hours)
  • Receive a passing score on both the final written test* and the final drive test *
  • It is our goal for 100% student success. We monitor student progress throughout the course and work to help our students graduate successfully.
  • It is required that all students abide by SWERVE Policies regarding missed class session and missed drive times as follows:
  • When a class session is missed, students must make it up, and schedule the make-up right away: ideally within one week. To make up classes, you can access the SWERVE Schedule, and sit in on the same-titled class given for a different course. Or, you may watch the class on DVD by scheduling a time with the Office Manager (425-883-9434 x 2).
  • When a drive time (Instructor-supervised driving) is missed (you simply don't show up for your scheduled drive) you will be charged a rescheduling fee.
  • Also, you MUST, in accordance with the Washington State Law, bring your Driver's Permit with you to all behind-the-wheel drives. If you do not have your permit, it will be considered a no show.
  • Appropriate and responsible classroom behavior is required: Any disrespectful , disruptive acts, including vandalism, will result in expulsion without a refund.
